Event Report

WAKAZO’s life and death awareness project, LAST WORDS, took part in an event at one of Kyoto’s oldest temples, Syiujyoykenin, LOTUS WEEKEND event from November 3rd (Friday) to November 5th (Sunday).

LOTUS WEEKEND is a three-day open event that focuses on the keywords “dialogue,” “experience,” and “observation,” intertwining the perspective of Buddhism with discussions on SDGs and the concept of happiness. This time, various booths and events were showcased under the theme “Contemplating Happiness from the Perspective of Life.” During this event, LAST WORDS, centering on the theme “Contemplating Happiness from the End of Life,” organized a series of workshop events. Hosting three workshops per day, the project engaged participants in diverse themes. The first part featured a “Journey of Death”, the second part involved a “414 Card Dialogue Session”, and the third part showcased the “LAST WORDS Project.”

On the event day, more than 150 individuals actively participated. Observing the “Tree of Life” created by LAST WORDS, attendees had the opportunity to understand various values and life perspectives, empowering them to cherish the present moment. Some participants were deeply moved and shed tears as they left, touched by the backgrounds and emotions conveyed through LAST WORDS.

Furthermore, on November 5th (Sunday), WAKAZO event representative Miki Kawamura participated in a panel discussion titled “Happiness Considered from the Z-Generation Perspective.”

Anticipation for the future contributions of LASTWORDS remains high. Stay tuned for more from this impactful project.
